Two Tickets Split $99 Million (891억원) Jackpot
Two winning SuperLotto Plus tickets matching all six numbers — 6, 9, 17, 29, 32 and Mega Number 12, shared October’s mega jackpot of $99 million.

The winning tickets, sold in Santa Clara and Los Angeles each worth $49.5 million were won by two couples. Aspiring actress Robynn Newton, 29, came forward with her winning ticket to claim her $49.5 million along with her fiancé Wes Dorffi. “I chose the numbers that were significant to our lives, said Newton, “but I just chose the 12 randomly.” Newton and Dorffi purchased their tickets at Fountain Shell in Los Angeles and spent only $1 dollar on lottery tickets. Newton opted for the lump sum which is $26.3 million. They plan to open a production company with their winnings and he will leave his current post with the Navy.

Sharing the mega jackpot was Santa Clara’s 7-Eleven franchisee Narinder Badwal and wife Lilla Singh, who came forward to claim their winning ticket on the Friday following the draw. The couple who will receive the payments over 26 years will receive a first payment of $1.2 million and $2.5 million on the final 26th year. They have no immediate plans for their winnings. Badwal and Singh will also receive $247,500 for selling the winning ticket.

This Lottery jackpot is the sixth largest in California Lottery history. The sales from this jackpot generated over $62 million to California’s public education.
Sacramento Lotto Club (648억원)
A group of 20 California Lottery players came forward today as the lucky winners of the $72 Million SuperLOTTO Plus® jackpot from Saturday, March 17, 2007!

The group has played the same numbers since 1996 and never lost faith that they would someday win. Gloria Madriz is one of the pool leaders and purchased the tickets for the group every week. She was in Tahoe over the weekend, but upon her return was more than pleasantly surprised when she discovered her group had the winning ticket. This morning the excitement escalated when she contacted the entire group.

"I called a friend, who is also in the group, to double check the numbers and we could not believe it! This seems unreal," said Madriz. "Three of our 20 members have retired, but still continued to play part as part of our group."

This enthusiastic group of 20 plays SuperLOTTO Plus every week. "There were a few months when I paid to keep another one of my group members in the pool after she had a serious car accident," said Jackie Sims. "I collected the money every week and Gloria would buy our tickets."

Ms. Mardriz purchased the winning SuperLOTTO Plus ticket at Lichine’s Liquor in Sacramento’s Land Park area. For selling the winning ticket, the store will receive a retailer bonus of $360,000. This was the 3rd SuperLOTTO Plus jackpot ticket sold at Lichine’s.

All winners, except those who are retired of course, plan to continue to work. Some said that they hope to pay off their mortgages with their winnings and others to just take a fantastic trip. The winners decided to take the cash option that amounts to approximately $40 million.

The 20 lucky members of "The Lotto Group" were: Karen Calamia, Lauren Chow, Nancy Cook, Paul DeSilva, Sally Dominguez, Elizabeth Gromek, Angela Johnson, Anna Joyal, Jennifer Juarez, Linda Knight-Wilson, Nova Krueger, Pat Luck, Gloria Madriz, Judy Masuda, Hermie Oliveros, Susan Rodriguez, Jackie Sims, Francee Spring, Judy Taniguchi, and Lorena Van-Rein. All are residents of the Sacramento area.
Ralph Acridge (450억원)
How do you pick your lottery numbers?  Do you always use the same ones?  Ralph Acridge does, and now he’s $50 Million richer!  Each week for the last 20 years, Ralph Acridge used the exact same numbers to play SuperLOTTO Plus®.  Each week, regular as clockwork, Acridge would check the drawn numbers against his “lucky” numbers which he had saved on his computer.

On September 24, 2005, when Acridge checked his numbers against the numbers in the newspaper and found that he had matched 4, plus the MEGA number he found that it was worth a $1,217 prize!  Excited, Acridge found his ticket and checked the numbers once more.  What happened next blew Acridge away! The numbers on his computer screen were different than those on his ticket.  As it turned out, this was an error in his favor because instead of winning $1,217, Acridge had actually won the $50 million jackpot. “I’m not a very good typist”, Acridge said.  “When I typed the numbers in on my computer, I had a typo.”
Even though he is now a millionaire, Acridge remains humble, saying, “I am totally comfortable with my lifestyle and I have everything I want.”  When asked about what he would do with the money, he suggested he would use it to make the lives of his family and friends better.  So what does this incredible win mean to Ralph Acridge?  In his own words, “I believe that everything happens for a reason and I don’t know what the reason is, but it is my responsibility to make this reason right.

” The 7-Eleven in Antioch, where Acridge always purchases his tickets, will receive a bonus of $250,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Kim Szabo (300억원)
Kim Szabo a homemaker, who plays $1 whenever she remembers to play, scrounged enough change from the bottom of her purse and bought $2 worth of SuperLOTTO Plus® tickets. Her decision to splurge a little made her the winner of $33.3 million.  Kim Szabo took the cash option which will give her about $13.5 million in one lump sum after a 25 percent withholding in federal taxes.

California education and businesses win too.  Calva Dairy in Huntington Beach who sold the winning $33.3 million ticket will receive a $167,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket and California's public schools will receive more than $62 million from the draw sales associated with this $100 million jackpot.
Charles Bush (396억원)
Charles Bush, a retired saw mill worker from Lindsay, was with his son and three great-grandchildren on their way home from a trip, when he decided to stop for gas at Dillon Road Chevron in Coachella.  Though not a regular player, he decided to try his luck by spending $5 on SuperLOTTO Plus® tickets and chose the Quick Pick® option. The numbers were drawn on July 17, 2004 and Bush became Tulare County’s biggest Lottery winner by winning $44 million.  Bush took the cash option which gave him about $17 million in one lump sum before a 25 percent withholding in federal taxes.

California education and businesses win too.  Dillon Road Chevron in Coachella who sold the winning $44 million ticket received a $220,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket and California's public schools will received more than $27 million from the draw sales associated with this jackpot.
Pamela Bazan (792억원)
On New Year’s Eve, 2003, Pamela Bazan went in to Carriage Trade Liquor to check some old lottery tickets. Upon arriving at the store, she noted that no one had won the jackpot from the night before and that the SuperLotto Plus jackpot had grown to $88 million. Since her advanced play had already expired, she was certain that she would buy ticket for the next draw. As luck would have it, when the retailer checked her tickets she had won $10 which she used to buy Quick Picks for the $88 million draw the following Saturday.

One of those Quick Picks turned out to be the winning combination of numbers – 5, 9, 13, 16, 21 and Mega Number 4 – for the $88 million jackpot! Bazan chose to receive a one-time payout worth roughly $44 million.

“I watched for the numbers that Saturday night on TV, and wrote them down. Then I fell into my ordinary routine, brushed my teeth, and got ready for bed. ‘Oh, and I’d better check my lottery tickets,’ I said to myself.” Her husband, Gilbert, was already asleep. Pamela’s tickets were buried at the bottom of her purse. “I got them out and looked – in disbelief. I looked at the numbers again, I didn’t want to wake Gilbert unless I was right.”

She felt strongly that she was right so she woke her husband. To confirm her win further, they went to a 7-Eleven that was open 24-hours and checked their ticket against a winning number report. With that confirmation, they knew it was for real, and at that point, Pamela Bazan explains, “I said to Gilbert, ‘You can retire now’.”

A few days later, Bazan reflected on the “surprise” beginning of 2004 and answered the dream question, what will they do with their multi-million dollar prize? “I don’t know if we’ll move or not, our kids were raised here.” One indulgence might be to take a long cruise. Bazan also plans on investing and paying off the mortgages of her three children. Bazan also has nine grandchildren, with whom she’d like to share her wealth. Bazan waxes philosophical when thinking about this experience as her destiny. “Why did this happen to us? I don’t know. My husband and I are hard-working, family-oriented people and I believe that what you get out of life is what you put into life. I guess it was just our time to win.”
Super Sunday! (819억원)
Patricia Frierson had played the same numbers for years and they finally paid off to the tune of $91 million. Frierson who won the sixth largest jackpot in Lottery history was astounded to find that her ticket matched some of the winning numbers and was probably worth around $1,500. In fact Frierson won five different prizes with her ticket. “I was really happy thinking that I had won more than $1,000,”said Frierson. Using a combination of the same numbers she had always played, one each in five different stores —and realized that she had five winning tickets worth $15, $51, $15,667 and $91 million. The winning numbers were 12, 19, 22, 31, 34, Mega number 7.

Ms. Frierson who had chosen her numbers using family anniversary dates stated, “The 12th is my daughter’s birthday, the 19th is my birthday,” she said. “The 22nd is the day we buried my grandson and the 31st is the day my husband died. The number 34 was for a very good year and 7 was for the month of July.”

Saturday, August 9, 2003 began as a day much like any other day for Frierson, a 55-year-old widow who worked the late shift at Rhodia, Inc., a chemical processing plant. Frierson, who was living at a nearby Econolodge waiting for escrow to close on her condo, went to work that Saturday night and came home late to watch the news. As she watched the newscast to get the winning numbers, she was surprised. “I knew that some of those numbers were mine,” she said. “I was sure I had won at least $15!”

Upon waking on Sunday morning, Frierson watched the news again and saw the name of the winning store. “I knew that I purchased a ticket at that store too. So I got dressed and went to the Village Liquors where I am a regular lottery-playing customer and got my results.” It was there outside the store that Patricia decided to check her tickets in the car. When she realized that she had won on all five tickets and one of them was for the SuperLotto Plus jackpot, she almost fainted.

That day, Frierson decided to take a few vacation days to let the dust settle. That night, Frierson slept with the winning ticket by her side. On Monday, she claimed her prize at the California Lottery’s Santa Ana District Office. Frierson had opted for the 26-year annuity option with checks beginning at $2.2 million graduating to $4.6 million by the 26th year (before federal taxes).

The first thing Frierson did after receiving her first check was to buy a house by the beach. Frierson plans to buy a house for her daughter and dreams of visiting Jamaica and Hawaii. She has hired several advisors to assist with her financial and legal decisions. Frierson, stunned by her winning $91 million said, “This really hasn’t sunk in yet. It really hasn’t.”

On October 31, 2003, Frierson realized her dream to meet Oprah Winfrey as she appeared as a guest on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”
